Temperature

TIRUCHI, APRIL 2 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 37.3 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is 26.4 degree Celsius.

Held for extortion

The police on Friday arrested four persons on the charge of extorting money from one Sureshkumar by threatening him with an `aruval.' Anand, Kumar, Rajesh Kannah and Mariyappan were arrested and a van was seized from them. The Cantonment Police have registered a case, the police said.

Arrested with toddy

The Prohibition and Enforcement Wing arrested a 50-year-old man on the charge of possessing toddy. The police said they seized three litres of toddy from Raja of Woraiyur. The PEW police have registered a case.

AIR special on

SSLC subjects

The Tiruchi station of All India Radio will broadcast a special hour-long live-in programme `Vetrikku Vazhi' from 11 a.m. on April 3 to clarify doubts of students in Social Science and General Science papers of the SSLC public examination.

The `Ilaya Bharatham' at 8 p.m. on April 3 would feature a special phone-in programme for the benefit of students of under-graduate course in Journalism and Public Information.

A press release issued here today said teachers would clarify the doubts of the students.

Students who want to benefit by the programme can dial 0431-2415341, 2415342.

Hundi collection

The hundi collection at Sri Mariamman Temple in Samayapuram near here netted a revenue of Rs.2.78 crores during the current `fasli' till March. A press release from the Joint Commissioner cum Executive Officer of the temple, B.R. Ashok, said the collection was 40 per cent higher than that of last year's. The collection realised from the hundi on March 30 was Rs.14.44 lakhs.

Mettur level

The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 51.84 feet today. The inflow was 185 cusecs and the discharge 900 cusecs.
