KURNOOL, APRIL 3. The third NCC group Raising Day was celebrated here on Sunday. The Group covering Mahabubnagar, Kurnool and Anantapur was established in 2002. Addressing the function, the Group Commander, Rohit Shukla, said the cadet strength in the three districts rose to 14,170 including 7,320 boys and 6,850 girls. Col. Shukla said after the Group Headquarters came into existence, the NCC could penetrate into rural areas by enrolling more girl cadets. He said five cadets from the group took part in the Republic Day camp while six attended the Thal Sena camp. One cadet took part in the National Integration camp at Port Blair. Col. Shukla presented the best unit trophy to the 28(A) Battalion at the function besides cash prizes to eight cadets of Rs. 3,000 (first) and Rs. 2,000 (second) each. The girl cadets presented colourful cultural programmes on the occasion.
