NEW DELHI, APRIL 3. Tsung-Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei outplayed Christopher Marquis 6-1, 6-0 in the boys semifinals of the ITF Asian under-14 tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Sunday. Stroking with imagination and attacking with confidence, the second-seeded Yang who had been stretched by Yuki Bhambri in the previous round, made light of the challenge from Marquis. The only Indian player to have made it this far in the tournament, the third-seeded Marquis lacked the confidence to make a fight of it, especially so because he was struggling with his service rhythm. Marquis managed to hold serve in the first game after being 0-30, but thereafter was unable to win a game even as Yang hammered shots with punch and precision with commendable assurance. Coach T. Chandrasekaran stressed that Marquis needed to be corrected technically but it had to be conceded that the boy lacked the focus and the athleticism to project a positive image of himself. Yang will challenge the top-seeded Pattrayu Chumpetch, the technically correct Thai lad who warded off a stiff resistance from the big-serving left-hander, Ryan Cheung of Hong Kong in a second-set tie-break. In the girls' section, the top-seeded Albina Khabibulina of Uzbekistan displayed some of her sparkling shots and a sound temperament to outplay Nicha Lertpitaksinchai of Thailand and will meet another Thai, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in the final.
