Bardhan re-elected CPI general secretary

NEW DELHI, APRIL 3. A.B. Bardhan was today re-elected general secretary of the Communist Party of India at the election held in Chandigarh.

Mr. Bardhan has been elected to the post for the fourth time at the 19th party congress that concluded in Chandigarh.

Mr. Bardhan was elevated to the post in the late nineties after the then general secretary, Indrajit Gupta, vacated the post on becoming the Union Home Minister.

Besides Mr. Bardhan, the party re-elected eight others to the national secretariat. They include the former Kerala Chief Minister, P.K. Vasudevan Nair, Sudhakar Reddy, Gurudas Das Gupta (both MPs), Nandgopal Bhattacharya, Shameem Faizee, D. Raja, Gaya Singh and Amarjeet Kaur. The party also re-elected 15 following members to the national executive: Atual Anjaan, Pramod Gogai, Jalaluddin Ansari, C.R. Bakshi, R. Nallakanu, Veliyam Bhargavan, Joginder Dayal, C.K. Chandrappan, P. Nageswar Rao, N.N. Ojha, Badri Narayan, G. Pasare, Manoj Mazumdar, U.N. Mishra and J. Chittaranjan who is the ex-officio member and Chairman of the Control Commission.
