DAVANGERE, APRIL 3. H.D. Kumaraswamy, Working President of the State unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) and son of the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, pooh-poohed reports that the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will leave the party and join the Congress. Mr. Kumaraswamy said Mr. Siddaramaiah was one of the main pillars of the Janata Dal (S) and he is among the leaders who have built the party. Talking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Kumaraswamy accused some Opposition leaders of spreading such news to weaken the Janata Dal (S). He called upon the party workers not to give credence to such "false propaganda" and made it clear that Mr. Siddaramaiah will continue in the Janata Dal (S). To a question, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the Janata Dal (S) had never demanded that the Chief Minister be changed. It is for the Congress High Command to continue N. Dharam Singh in the post or name some one else for it. "Our party has never demanded a change," he clarified. To a question, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that it is not the right time to talk about having an alliance with the Samajawadi Party. The former Chief Minister, S. Bangarappa, who quit the Bharatiya Janata Party is the State unit President of the Samajawadi Party.
Deve Gowda defended
Mr. Kumaraswamy defended Mr. Deve Gowda's stand against the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which is executing the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project. Mr. Kumaraswamy said Mr. Deve Gowda has opposed certain actions of the company as he thought they were not right.
Felicitation
The Janata Dal (S) has organised the `Grama Janothsava' programme on April 13 at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore. Gram panchayat members belonging to the Janata Dal (S) who were elected in the recent elections will be felicitated. They will also be made known about their responsibilities as gram panchayat members, he said.
