A.P. projects will hit State hard: Vatal

By Our Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR, APRIL 3. The Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha President and Chamarajanagar MLA, Vatal Nagaraj, has urged the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to stop Andhra Pradesh from going ahead with its "illegal" projects in the Krishna Basin.

Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. Nagaraj criticised Andhra Pradesh for taking up the projects and said that this will lead to acute drinking water scarcity in Kolar and Tumkur districts.

He hit out at successive Union Governments for allegedly neglecting the interests of Karnataka and supporting Andhra Pradesh.

He said that the Cauvery Tribunal had also done injustice to the State. Mr. Nagaraj called upon the Rajya Sabha members from Karnataka, M.A.M. Ramaswamy and M. Venkaiah Naidu, former President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, to resign from the House in support of Karnataka's cause.

He said that they were elected from the State and therefore they should work towards protecting Karnataka's interests.

Mr. Nagaraj said that the MLAs and MPs from the State should fight against the Andhra Pradesh Government's action in the Krishna Basin.

Mr. Nagaraj called upon all political parties to call for "Karnataka bandh" if the all-party delegation that will meet the Prime Minister does not succeed in its attempt to get Andhra Pradesh stop works on its projects.
