Magazine anniversary celebrated

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. Leading architects of the country gathered here in the Capital this week-end to celebrate the second anniversary of Archi Design Perspective, the magazine devoted to the art and science of architecture. Present on this occasion was the former President, K.R. Narayanan, who gave away awards to young architecture students who participated in the competition organised by the magazine. The highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of C.P. Kukreja for his lifetime contributions to architecture academics and in promoting architectural journalism.

Hazur Baba remembered

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. A large number of people from all over the country gathered at Kirpal Bagh on Saturday on the occasion of the 57th "Barsi Bhandara" of Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj. On this occasion Mata Harbhajan Kaur sang a verse from the Gurbani. Rich tributes were paid for his contribution to spiritual awakening in the world. A film on his life and teachings was also screened.

The work of Hazur Baba Singh Ji Maharaj is now being continued by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj. He teaches meditation in a very simple and scientific way that can be practiced by children and the aged alike. He was a major presenter at the 1993 Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago.

Savings institute meet held

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. The Second Annual Review Meeting of the National Savings Institute, Ministry of Finance, was held in the Capital this past week. It was inaugurated by the Secretary (Expenditure and Budget). D.Swarup. He urged the National Savings Institute team to prepare itself to face the various challenges in mobilisation of savings in the present competitive environment and low interest regime.

Award for NIIT scientist

New Delhi April 3. NIIT's chief scientist Sugata Mitra has been selected for this year's Dewang Mehta Award instituted by the government for innovation in Information Technology.

The award would be conferred on Mitra ``in recognition of his pinnacle achievement, the discovery of the pedagogy of minimally invasive education''.

The award was instituted in 2001 by Department of Information Technology in memory of the IT czar Dewang Mehta, to honour individuals from technology-related sectors for their innovative work with the potential of making an impact on national development or bring fame to the country.

The past recipients of this prestigious award include Rajesh Hukku of i-Flex and the team led by Vinay Deshpande that developed the Simputer.
