Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 4 . The Pondicherry Chamber of Commerce has urged the Lt. Governor, M. M. Lakhera, to ensure abolition of Central Sales Tax when the Value Added Tax comes into force. A delegation of the chamber, led by the president, N. Govindasamy, presented a memorandum to the Lt Governor recently. It requested the Lt. Governor to take it up with the Centre. Contending that the levy of four per cent CST would increase the prices of commodities originating here, the chamber sought a subsidy to offset the impact.
