Rupee weakens against dollar
MUMBAI,
APRIL 4.
The rupee today weakened against the U.S. currency on a late round of heavy dollar short-covering by banks following soaring global oil prices and a robust dollar overseas in slightly nervous trading at the interbank foreign exchange market.
Closing at 43.7750/7850 a dollar, a 3-1/2 paise decline from last Thursday's close of 43.74/75, the rupee hit the day's low of 43.79/80, minutes before the final bell.
