Haryana Govt. to formulate renewable energy policy soon

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 4. The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) will soon come out with a State Renewable Energy Power Policy, according to C.Chaudhary, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Renewable Energy Department and Chairman, HAREDA. He was chairing a meeting of the HAREDA Board of Governors here today.

The Director and Joint Secretary, Renewable Energy, Sumita Misra, who is also Director, HAREDA, disclosed that the Policy was being considered by a

High Powered Committee headed by the Chief Secretary.

HAREDA had also initiated a project for promoting sustainable building design, based on the concept of energy conservation, energy efficiency and

renewable energy technology in collaboration with TERI, a non-government organisation, as an Asian partner and Institut catala 'd'Energia (ICAEN), Barcelona, Spain and Merton Council U.K. as European partner. The total outlay of the project was Rs. 2.86 crores, out of which 65 per cent was to be borne by the European Commission and remaining by the project partners and their respective NGO partners, she said.

She further pointed out that the main objectives of this project were to improve the urban environment in Gurgaon district through introduction of sustainable measures in building designs besides assisting local authority in Gurgaon to formulate urban development strategies and develop sustainable habitat or building design plans on concept of energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy technology.

It also aimed to develop a communication strategy for local authorities on how they might engage with the private sectors and the local community in implementing sustainable energy options in buildings and to strengthen the capacity of building practitioners.
