NEW DELHI, APRIL 4. The Delhi High Court today restrained the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) from demolishing alleged illegal additions to the building of the fast food joint Wimpy in Connaught Place here. Issuing the direction, Justice Ravindra S. Bhat asked the Council to maintain status quo in the building till May 5. He also directed the owners of the joint not to add any new structure to the building. On March 23 this year, the Council had served a notice on the owners of the eatery forewarning them of demolishing the alleged illegal constructions in the building. However, Justice Bhat said that the interim orders issued by the Court would not come in the way of the Council taking a decision on a petition filed by the eatery owners regarding the matter. In the petition, the food joint owners submitted that the notice issued to them by the Council was illegal, discriminatory and mala fide as most buildings in the area had basement and internal partition walls to which civic body had not raised any objection to them.
