Kalimuthu should step down: Vaiko

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, APRIL 4. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko today said Speaker K. Kalimuthu should step down without further delay, as the Supreme Court had directed him to appear before the court in "Robin Mayne case.'

"If he resigned in the wake of the directive from the apex court, his act would set an example for others. But he would incur Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's anger if he stepped down, Mr. Vaiko told reporters here.

He was non-committal on his party contesting the by-elections in Gummidipoondi and Kancheepuram, saying a decision would be taken by the Democratic Progressive Alliance chief, M. Karunanidhi, after holding discussions with the allies.

On the criticism of the Ministers from Tamil Nadu, he said the AIADMK supremo, Jayalalithaa, who was not even prepared to attend the Chief Ministers' conference at New Delhi, did not even have locus standi to find fault with others.
