KOZHIKODE, APRIL 4. A district Youth Congress leader was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a well at Cherandathur, near Vadakara, here this morning. C.V. Abdulla (42), district secretary of the youth wing of the party, was found dead in the well of the house of Zainaba in Maniyoor grama panchayat, about 4 km from his residence. He was a teacher at the Thodanoor Upper Primary School in Thiruvallur grama panchayat. He is survived by his wife and child. The District Congress Committee has called for a dawn-to dusk hartal in Vadakara taluk on Tuesday in protest against what he termed "the murder of the Youth Congress leader." Abdulla's body was found with head injuries and hands and legs broken. A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The Payoli Circle Inspector will investigate the caseThe police suspect that the murder of Abdulla may be linked to a series of incidents that rocked the school and locality last week when a few local persons assaulted a group of students. Two students who were injured in the attack were admitted to the Vadakara Taluk Government Hospital. Two of the accused were arrested by the police following a complaint lodged by the teachers and parents at the Vadakara police station. They were later released on bail. The incident on the campus had created a wedge between two communities in the area, the police said. One of the teachers, P. Kasim, a member of the School Executive Committee, who led the protest against the attack on students was attacked allegedly by some Muslim fundamentalist organisations a couple of days ago. Police sources said Abdulla was also a strong critic of this fundamentalist organisation that has effective roots in rural Kozhikode. He was an active member of Samskriti, a cultural unit of the Congress party.
