MADURAI, APRIL 4. An accused in a rape case died on court premises here today soon after the judgement was pronounced sentencing him to five years in prison. According to the police, D. Charles alias Deepan (28) of T. Meenakshipuram in Theni district was accused of molesting a minor girl of the same area on October 10, 2002. The Mahila Court Judge, Annamalai, sentenced the accused to five-year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs.5,000 on him. Even as the documents were being prepared to send him to the prison, he suddenly fell unconscious. A doctor, who was deposing in a nearby court, examined Charles and declared him dead.
