Acharya need not appear before probe officer
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
APRIL 4.
A sessions court, which had granted anticipatory bail to the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, in the `Tirukottiyur Madhavan assault case' and asked him to appear before the investigating officer every Saturday, relaxed the condition today.
With a similar condition laid down by the Madras High Court having been relaxed already, the Acharya need not to appear before investigating officers in connection with any case.
The Principal Sessions Judge, P. Murugesan, ordered total relaxation when counsel K.S. Dinakaran pointed out that the Acharya had fully complied with the anticipatory bail conditions and appeared before the officials thrice.
The junior Sankaracharya, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, granted bail in the Sankararaman murder case on February 10, filed a petition in the High Court seeking relaxation of the bail conditions. On February 10, Justice M. Thanikachalam directed the junior Acharya to reside within the Chennai Corporation limits and report to the Thousand Lights police at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
