GEORGETOWN, APRIL 5 West Indies cricket officials on Monday recalled former captain Brian Lara and three other previously ineligible players for the series against South Africa. Lara was recalled along with batsmen Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chris Gayle, and allrounder Dwayne Bravo. The West Indies Cricket Board had ruled them and three others ineligible because they had personal endorsement contracts with British-based telecommunications giant Cable & Wireless, a rival of the Irish company Digicel, the team's new sponsor. Despite Lara's return, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was retained as captain for the second Test against South Africa starting in Trinidad on Friday, the board said. The 30-year-old is a veteran of 81 Tests including the one that ended in a draw against South Africa on Monday at Bourda. Wicketkeeper Courtney Browne was kept as Chanderpaul's deputy for the rest of the series against the visitor, the board said.
