MYSORE, APRIL 5. Citizens heaved a sigh of relief as the temperature dropped considerably following mild showers here on Tuesday. The respite from the searing heat of the early summer took the citizens by surprise. The sudden change in the weather conditions is unusual and is attributed to turbulent conditions elsewhere, the impact of which is being felt over a vast region. The change in the weather pattern is prevailing since Monday in Mysore and surrounding regions while parts of Chamarajanagar district received heavy rain a few days ago. There was scattered rain in Mysore district, including the Hunsur-Periyapatna belt, that helped bring down the temperature considerably. People in the Mysore-Chamarajanagar belt normally prepare for a long scorching summer but have been lucky because of the sudden drop in temperature following today's mild showers. The run-up to the southwest monsoon, which normally sets in during June, is characterised by light to heavy showers and the summer is practically over by the third week of May, provided the monsoon is on time.
