PONDICHERRY, APRIL 5. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said the Centre was processing the proposal for the Rs. 34-crore fishing harbour in Karaikal. The Expenditure Finance Committee of the Union Agriculture Ministry would discuss the proposal at its meeting in New Delhi on April 18. The project would be cleared soon by the Centre and the fishing harbour would come up soon in Karaikal, he told the Leader of the Opposition R. V. Janakiraman (DMK) and his colleagues V. M. C. Sivakumar, and A. M. H. Nazeem (both hailing from Karaikal region) during question time in the Assembly.
Probe into encroachment case
Replying to a query raised by A. Kasilingam (AIADMK), Mr. Rangasamy said during question time that the police were investigating the alleged encroachment on a site belonging to the Directorate of Education. The police registered a case under Sections 468 and 471 (read with section 34 of the Indian Penal Code) in September last, he said. The Chief Minister said the site would be recovered soon and would be utilised for expansion of the infrastructure in the Sinnatha Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Muthialpet.
