VELLORE, APRIL 5. The role of the Home Guards in Vellore district in conducting medical camps and bringing down the crime rate in the district was hailed by the Vellore Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, Srilakshmi Prasaad, and the Superintendent of Police, N. Rajasekaran, at the Home Guards Day celebrations organised here on Sunday. Mrs. Srilakshmi Prasaad congratulated A.M. Ikram, Area Commander, Tamil Nadu Home Guards, Vellore district for having conducted several free medical camps with the help of the doctors from leading hospitals in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore. She underlined the importance of devotion and dedication for any work to succeed. Mr. Rajasekaran lauded the role played by the Home Guards in bringing down the crime rate including that of prohibition offences in Vellore district through night patrols. He said the remuneration paid to the Home Guards was meagre considering the selfless service rendered by them, and the number of hours they worked in a week. On behalf of the Vellore District Home Guards Association, Dr. Ikram presented silver swords to the DIG and the SP.
