Boats damaged in rain

NAGERCOIL, APRIL 5. The recent heavy rain caused damage to more than five boats in Kanyakumari district. Thoothur under Nithravilai police limits bore the brunt of the damage. The Additional Collector, Prakash, visited the coastal hamlets and assured assistance.

Meanwhile, a watchman was killed on the spot when the compound wall of a workshop near here caved in and fell on him on Monday night.

Velayudham (60) of Pazavur near Kanyakumari was working as a watchman at a workshop in Nagercoil. He died on the spot. The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.

The level in Pechipparai dam stood at 13.20 feet against the total capacity of 48 feet, 20 feet in Perunchani as against the total capacity of 77 feet, 1.05 feet in Chittar I and 2.85 feet in Chittar II as against the total capacity of 18 feet each.
