Small growers welcome order

By Our Staff Reporter

UDHAGAMANDALAM, APRIL.5. The Nilgiris Small Tea Growers Association has welcomed the New Tea Order 2005. Pointing out that for long it had been urging the Centre to do away with the "import for exports'' scheme, the President of the association, M. Bhojarajan, told The Hindu here today that since the place of origin was often not stipulated under the scheme, tea exports from India had been adversely affected. He added that teas that were being exported should be one hundred per cent of Indian origin. The Tea Board should ensure this before the consignments were cleared.
