Hasda's impressive show continues

HYDERABAD, APRIL 5. Jhanu Hasda of Jharkhand continued her impressive show in the National ranking archery circuit tournament by winning all her five matches in the elimination round of the 18-arrow league for women in compound bow category at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old archer, who set the world record in the 70m event on Monday, topped the table in her group followed by her Statemates Bansara Lin Dhar, with four wins from five matches, and Sakro Besra, with three wins from similar number of matches.

In the 18-arrow league for women in recurve category, Olympian Dola Banerjee put up a creditable performance, winning 10 of the 11 matches. Ranu of Uttar Pradesh and Chakravolu Sworu of Nagaland finished second and third with nine and eight wins respectively.

There was something to cheer about for the host as N. Arun Kumar, a double bronze medallist in the recent Asian Grand Prix meet, was placed first after the elimination round in the 18-arrow league for men in compound bow category winning 10 of the 11 matches. Sanand Mitra of Chhattisgarh and Naresh Damor of ITBP were second and third respectively with eight wins apiece.

There was some disappointment for local archer Ram Manohar when his bow cable broke in the compound bow competition forcing him to bow out of the fray.

The final qualifiers for the 12-arrow league:

Women: Compound bow category: 18-arrow league: Jhanu Hasda (Jharkhand), Bansara Lin Dhar (Jharkhand), Sakro Besra (Jharkhand), Radha Bai (Chattisgarh), Swati (Maharashtra) and Sonam (Maharashtra).

Recurve bow category: 18-arrow league: Dola Banerjee (Tata Academy), Ranu (UP), Chakravolu Sworu (Nagaland), Sumangala Sharma (UP), Laxmirani Majhi (Tata Academy), Rosie (Tata Academy) and Bhagyabati Chanu (Tata Academy).

Men: Compound bow category: 18-arrow league: N. Arun Kumar (AP), Sanand Mitra (Chattisgarh), Naresh Damor (ITBP), Sanjay Suhag (Army Sports Institute), Syed Shareefuddin (AP), Ved Kumar (ITBP), Haresh Kumar (Jharkhand) and Mahul Patil (Army Sports Institute).
