United Nations: The U.S.-French draft seeking an international probe into the assassination of the former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik al-Hariri, has run into rough weather in the U.N. Security Council with several members demanding changes in the wording to ensure that the country's sovereignty is respected. During closed-door consultations, the U.N. Security Council members sought changes in the language of the draft which would somewhat alter the mandate for the international investigators. While there is wide-ranging support for an outside investigation, several members stressed that it should supplement and assist, and not replace the inquiry being conducted by the Lebanese authorities.
