BVB (Hubli) triumphs

MYSORE, APRIL 5. Dark horse B.V. Bhoomi Reddy College of Engineering, Hubli, registered an exciting 7-6 (via sudden-death in the tie-breaker) win over last-year's runner-up PES Enginnering College, Mandya, in the final and clinched the title in the VTU inter-zonal football tournament conducted by Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering at the University grounds here on Tuesday.

Centre-half Tapi Mali scored for BVB in the fifth minute of the first half. Left-out Naveen equalised in the 55th minute for PES. At full time, both the teams were level 1-1.

Even after extra time no goals were scored and the tie-breaker came into play.

For BVB, Tommy, Tafang, Tako Tai, Baken, Tamo and Katu scored while Zodiapuia, Lalthungkima, Zarzollam, Kaushik and Lathalamma scored for PES. BVB, Hubli, triumphed 7-6.

The results: Final: BVB (Hubli) bt PES (Mandya) 7-6 (via tie-breaker sudden death).

Semifinals: BVB (Hubli) bt MCE (Hassan) 2-1; PES (Mandya) bt CMRIT, B'lore 1-0.
