BIDAR, APRIL 5. The 98th birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram was celebrated in a simple manner in Bidar on Tuesday because of the three-day mourning announced due to the death of Pope John Paul II. Bandeppa Kashempur, MLA, garlanded the portrait of the late leader at a function at the Deputy Commissioner's office. The Headquarters' Assistant, S.G. Wali, said that Babu Jagajivan Ram will be remembered as the man who made a sincere attempt to eradicate hunger and poverty from the country. He earned the title of the harbinger of the Green Revolution, he said. The Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies, M.C. Gangadhar, said that Babu Jagjivan Ram, as the Food Minister, provided the right direction for the country's growth by focussing on the development of agriculture. Shivsharanappa Wali, the Assistant Commissioner, T.H.M. Kumar, and the district Social Welfare Officer, S.M. Jyothi, were present.
