BANGALORE, APRIL 5. A mob set fire to a maxi cab that mowed down two persons waiting for a bus at the Herohalli Cross stop on the Bangalore-Magadi Road in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday morning. Tension in the area brought traffic to a halt for almost two hours on the busy road. The police caned the mob to disperse it. The police said that around 10 a.m., the maxi cab, carrying passengers from Bangalore to Tavarekere, overtook a private bus near the bus stop. It went out of control and ran over Rajappa (30), a vegetable seller, and Kumar (35), a construction worker, both residents of Herohalli. Two others, Nandisha (25) and Ramanna (60), were injured and admitted to a private hospital in Sunkatakatte. Infuriated by the incident, people set ablaze the maxi cab, the driver of which had fled the scene. They then sat on the road in protest against the absence of humps on the recently asphalted Magadi Road. The residents alleged that the absence of humps had resulted in two accidents recently, including the one on Tuesday.
