Aided teacher posts: YSR pulls up official

HYDERABAD, APRIL 5. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has hauled up the Principal Secretary, School Education, S. Chellappa, for "indiscriminate" sanctioning of aided posts to schools on and off without the knowledge of the Minister concerned or the Chief Minister's Office.

Before leaving for Gujarat to take part in the Dandi march on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy summoned the official to the airport and sought an explanation on reports in the press about a scam in sanctioning of posts in the grants-in-aid category. He reportedly admonished the official for his alleged negligence.

He also instructed him to hand over to the CID the latest instance of sanction of 10 aided posts to a school in Eluru.

Recently, the Chief Minister reprimanded the same official on learning that a file had been circulated from the Secretariat sanctioning 17 grant-in-aid posts of teachers for a school in Vijayawada. There is a ban on recruitment of teachers against grant-in-aid posts.
