SHIMLA, APRIL 5. Nine thousand three hundred and thirty one registered contractors are working in PWD, Irrigation and Public Health, State Electricity Board and Housing Department in the state. This information was given by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in the State Assembly in reply to a question from Sukhvinder Singh (Cong).He said maximum number of contractors 4803 are registered with the PWD department followed by Irrigation and Public Health 4394 numbers. Mr Singh said only 106 contractors are registered from outside the state and preference is given to the local contractors as per the policy of the government. In reply to a question from Jaya Ram Thakur (BJP), Mr Singh said during January 1,2004 to February 1,2005 the total number of 15,877 employees of all categories were transferred. This includes transfers effected on requests,promotions or other administrative reasons as well.Mr Singh said these transfers are effected on the basis of the existing policy and in the proposed new policy only some changes to make it more effective are to be incorporated.
