Invite Rabri to form government: RJD

By K. Balchand

PATNA, APRIL 5. The Rashtriya Janata Dal today urged the Governor, Buta Singh, to invite its Legislature Party leader, Rabri Devi, to form the government going by convention and the Constitution, allowing her to prove majority on the floor of the House.

The RJD spokesman, Bhola Prasad Singh, said non-RJD parties, including the National Democratic Alliance, were not in a position to provide an alternative.

The RJD stressed that as it alone staked claim, the Governor should invite it to form the government.

It appealed to smaller parties and independents to take note of the Supreme Court's rejection of the appeal for payment of salaries and hoped that instead of being pushed on to the roads, they would rally behind the RJD and help it give the State a popular government.

Mr. Singh warned the LJP chief and Union Steel Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, against using harsh words against the RJD and said he was in the Cabinet on the basis of the strength of the RJD's 24 MPs in the Lok Sabha.

He hoped that the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, would impress upon Mr. Paswan to restrain his statements.
