By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 5.
The Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Jong-Wook Lee, joined the Health and Family Welfare Minister, R. Anbumani, in administering polio vaccine to children here today ahead of a national vaccination campaign.
India is one of the six countries where polio still remains, and the country is taking massive efforts to eradicate disease. Dr. Anbumani said that by the end of 2005, India will be free from polio. The final push towards polio eradication required intensive surveillance and targeted supplemental immunisation to interrupt the transmission.
