Preethi Gangadharan triumphs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 5. Preethi Gangadharan scored a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win over Neelima Sanjay to lift the women's singles title as the rain-affected TCTDS Open tennis tournament concluded at the TTC courts here on Tuesday.

Earlier, M. Binu Mani, winner of the men's singles title on Monday, duly completed a grand double when he and his younger brother Binoj took the men's doubles title beating A. Vijayakumar and V.R. Vijikumar 7-5, 6-2.

The day also witnessed young Swathy Kanth finish with a double, winning the boys' under-14 singles and doubles titles. In the singles, Swathy Kanth beat Solomon G. Thomas 6-2, 6-1 and later took the doubles title in the company of S. Sajin, defeating Anand George and Solomon G. Thomas 6-3, 6-3.

However, Swathy Kanth's quest for a treble did not materialise as he lost to G.L. Vivek 6-1, 6-1 in the boys' under-16 singles final.

Neelima Sanjay, the losing women's singles finalist, had some consolation as she won the girls' under-18 singles title with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Neha S. Nair.

The Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation, gave away the prizes.

The results (all finals): Men's doubles: Binu Mani & Binoj Mani bt A. Vijayakumar & V.R.Vijikumar 7-5, 6-2.

Boys: Under-16: Singles: G.L. Vivek bt Swathy Kanth 6-1, 6-1. Doubles: Shyam Babu & M.R. Rajendran bt Jayaram & Ramnath 6-3, 6-4.

Under-14: Singles: Swathy Kanth bt Solomon G. Thomas 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles: Swathy Kanth & S. Sajin bt Anand George & Solomon G. Thomas 6-3, 6-3.

Women: Singles: Preethi Gangadharan bt Neelima Sanjay 6-2, 6-3.

Girls: Under-18 singles: Neelima Sanjay bt Neha S.Nair 6-3, 6-3.
