Thrissur
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, APRIL 5. The Mayor, K. Radhakrishnan, has refuted the allegation that he is holding on to the post of executive director of Jawahar Balbhavan by refusing to call an election. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he refuted the charge that he had politicised the functioning of the Balbhavan. "I was nominated to the post in 1991 by the former Agriculture Minister V. V. Raghavan. Over the past 10 years, I have striven to make the Thrissur branch of Balbhavan one of the best in the country. I will not contest in the next Balbhavan election,'' Mr. Radhakrishnan said. The Balbhavan executive committee member, M. Muraleedharan, alleged that Mr. Radhakrishnan had sabotaged the Balbhavan elections. "The management board, chaired by the Collector, had decided to hold the elections on April 8. Following this, the principal secretary issued an order to reconstitute the management board. This move, which has stalled the elections, is against rules,'' Prof. Muraleedharan alleged.
