KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 5. In the wake of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams' (TTD) decision to allow women barbers to tonsure heads of women pilgrims in Kalyanakattas, the Andhra Pradesh State Nayi Brahmana Cooperative Federation has decided to impart special training to the Nayi Brahmana women in Tirupati in collaboration with the TTD.. Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the federation chairman, G. Shekhar Babu said only professional Nayi Brahmanas should be allowed to work in the State's temples.
Other trades too
He said it was also decided to impart training in other trades like beautician, tailoring and embroidery courses in six districts -- Karimnagar, Anantapur, Kurnool, Vijayawada, Ongole and Cuddapah. In each batch, 50 women would be trained and each would be given a stipend of Rs. 300 per month during the three-month training period.
Also on the cards is the Indira Gandhi Music School especially for the Nayi Brahmana to teach their traditional music in some districts. Mr. Shekhar Babu said the existing three music schools were not functioning properly in the State due to shortage of staff.
Loans for youth
The federation had also decided to provide middle term loans for self-employment of Nayi Brahmana youth by setting up hair cutting salons, beauty parlours etc. He urged the Government to appoint a barber in each 30-bedded hospital for patients. He asked the Nayi Brahmana societies to get registered with the federation to avail of Government's benefits.
