LUCKNOW, APRIL 5. The Uttar Pradesh government today raised by five times the agricultural loan limit for farmers from Rs 1 lakh and increased by two years the retirement age limit for teachers in aided Sanskrit schools. A meeting of the State cabinet presided by the Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, decided to raise the agricultural loan limit from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh with exemption on stamp duty on tractor and its machinery, the Chief Secretary, V.K. Mittal, told reporters here. He said the government also raised the retirement age of teachers in aided Sanskrit schools from 60 to 62 years. The cabinet also decided to set up a development authority for integrated development of the high-profile home district of State's Urban Development Minister Azam Khan. It decided to set up veterinary colleges in the private sector on the lines of medical colleges, Mr. Mittal said. This is aimed at providing more veterinary doctors in the State where out of the sanctioned 2234 government vacancies only 1670 such doctors are available, he added. The cabinet also decided that the criterion for providing financial assistance for the purpose of marriage and medical care for persons belonging to the scheduled castes and tribes would henceforth be determined on the parameters fixed in 2001 for identifying those below the poverty line. --PTI
