NOIDA, APRIL 5. Several government officials and former Ministers of Uttar Pradesh could be among those swindled by notorious land mafia operator Moti Goel, who allegedly sold acres of government land to people using forged documents. The case came to light when a former Uttar Pradesh Minister, Ram Pal Singh, filed a petition in the court against Moti Goel and his close associate Mahavir for selling land to him on forged documents. Mr. Singh filed an FIR in the Kasna police station stating that Moti Goel and Hari Singh had sold seven acres of land in Amarpur village to him through a forged registry. In the FIR, Mr. Singh has stated that he was unaware about the information on the title of the land till recently. In another FIR filed in the same police station he alleged that in the year 2002, Goel and his close associate Mahavir had transferred 17.5 acres of land to him in Chuhardpur Khatar village through forged documents. According to sources, a number of politicians and officials cheated by the land mafia are expected to file their FIRs in the coming days. The racketeering was unearthed after an investigation by the senior UP cadre bureaucrat, T. George Joseph.
