TIRUCHI, APRIL 5 . N. K. Senthamaraikannan took charge as the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi district here today. Prior to this, he was the SP, Special Task Force (STF) at Erode. Having joined the police force as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1989, Mr. Senthamaraikannan got the IPS cadre allotment in 1997. For four-and-half years, he served in the Special Task Force, constituted to nab forest brigand Veerappan, as a DSP, Additional Superintendent of Police and later Superintendent of Police from 1999 to 2004. While serving as the SP, STF, Mr. Senthamaraikannan masterminded the "Operation Cocoon" in which brigand Veerappan and three of his associates were killed in an encounter in Dharmapuri district in October last year.
