Clear day, cloudy later

NEW DELHI APRIL 5. The Capital can look forward to a mainly clear sky on Wednesday. According to the weatherman, the sky is likely to become partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening with possibility of thundery developments or light rain accompanied by squalls in some areas. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 37 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Tuesday was 38.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 17.7 degrees Celsius. At Palam, the maximum temperature was 39.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 19 degrees Celsius. The maximum humidity recorded at both Safdarjung and Palam was 67 per cent, while minimum was 13 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.

Gambling den smashed

NEW DELHI APRIL 5. Three persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly running a gambling den under the garb of a video game parlour designed for children.

The Anti-Robbery Section of the Crime Branch had received a tip-off about such a den flourishing at Laxmi Nagar commercial complex in East Delhi. On Monday, the police sent a decoy to strike a deal in the parlour named of "Dream World". The decoy placed a bet on the gambling machine following which the waiting police team moved in and arrested the accused, Joginder Singh, Sudhir Kumar and Karam Bir, from the spot. Two gambling machines were also seized.

DU gets new conference hall

NEW DELHI APRIL 5. With Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Nayyar inaugurating a state-of-the-art conference facility today, the North Campus got its much needed multi-purpose Conference Hall with a seating capacity of over 200 people.

Housing nine large and medium-sized committee rooms, a tele-conferencing room that can seat 25 people, computer rooms and a board room, the complex also has a large coffee break room, a foyer and a pantry. Spread over 27,000 sq. ft, the complex is situated opposite the Department of Botany. Undertrials injured

NEW DELHI APRIL 5. Three undertrials sustained minor injuries in a scuffle that broke out at the Tihar Central Jail premises when a special court was in progress today.

According to the police, eight undertrials began fighting among themselves when they were brought to an open courtyard for hearing around 1 p.m. Three undertrials sustained minor bruises on their faces. However, the situation was soon brought under control. Electrocuted

NEW DELHI APRIL 5. A 20-year-old youth was electrocuted at Shahpur Gujran in North-East Delhi today.

According to the police, Ganesh, a resident of Sonia Vihar, was an employee of a BSES contractor. At the time of the incident, Ganesh was reportedly fixing the wiring on an electric pole. He was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
