Gang assaults couple, takes away ornaments

BANGALORE, APRIL 5. A six-member armed gang entered the house of an employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and took away Rs. 10,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said the dacoits entered the house of Ranganath in Kariyammana Agrahara in HAL police station limits around 2.30 a.m. by breaking the front door. They assaulted Ranganath and his wife, Soubhagya, snatched a gold chain and bangles from her, and bound and locked them up in a room.

The dacoits, who were around 30 years of age also took away cash and gold ornaments.

The couple, who were injured, were treated in a private hospital, the police said.

Doctor robbed

Three persons waylaid Shivananda Swamy, a doctor working in a private nursing home in S.R. Nagar, and robbed him of a diamond ring and a mobile phone near CTO Circle in Cubbon Park police station limits on Monday night.

The police said the incident occurred around 9.30 p.m. when Dr. Swamy was returning after meeting a friend.
