Four boys drown in tank

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, APRIL 5. Four boys, including two brothers, drowned in the Thigalarapalya tank, off Peenya, in Tavarekere police station limits on Monday.

The four boys from Friends' Colony on Andhrahalli Main Road in Rajagopalanagar police station limits were reported missing since Monday afternoon. Passers-by saw the four bodies in the tank around 5 p.m. on Tuesday and informed the Peenya police, who alerted the Tavarekere police.

The police gave the names of two of the dead as Vinod Kumar (13) and Panduranga (11), sons of Sathyabalau, proprietor of a scrap shop on Andrahalli Main Road.

The two others were identified as Shivaraj (11), son of Sathyabalu's younger brother, Gopal, and Vijay Bhargava alias Bharath (11), son of Sathyanarayana, a neighbour of Sathyabalu.

When the four boys, who had gone out to play on Monday afternoon, did not return home till evening, Sathyabalu lodged a missing persons complaint in the Rajagopalanagar police station.

The police suspect the boys drowned when they ventured into the tank for a swim.

The police, with the help of members of the public, removed the bodies and sent them to Victoria Hospital for autopsy. The bodies will be handed over to their families after autopsy on Wednesday, the police said.

The Tavarekere police have registered a case.
