More land likely for electronics units

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, APRIL 6. While the State Government has provided land for an electronics hardware park near the international airport at Devanahalli, another piece of land will be given near Electronics City and the proposed Hi-Tech City for other hardware units, the Minister for Industries, P.G.R. Sindhia, said here today.

Speaking after releasing Cliknet 2005, a trade directory compiled by the Consortium of Electronics Industries of Karnataka (CLIK), he said the second hardware park could preferably house small and medium companies and provide more jobs.

`Exports can double'

"Out of Karnataka's exports of all products last year amounting to Rs. 42,000 crores, electronics hardware exports were Rs. 2,500 crores, and this can double this year if you try," he told the CLIK members. Total exports in the current year could well touch Rs. 50,000 crores, the highest so far, he added. He invited industry associations to join a Karnataka delegation visiting Australia shortly.

Positive climate

The State has good human resources, a positive industrial climate and a transparent Government, and increasing exports should not be difficult, Mr. Sindhia said.

"During the last eight months, the coalition Government has cleared projects with investments of Rs. 40,000 crores. We know there are infrastructure bottlenecks, and they are being solved one by one. The international airport and the metro rail are becoming a reality," he said.

Mr. Sindhia released the CD Cliknet 2005, which lists more than 1,000 IT and electronics industries in the State, besides all government agencies and trade organisation related to these sectors. The State's industrial, information technology and biotechnology policies and a search engine that can locate individual industries by name, location or product are features of this updated directory.

Mr. Sindhia also released the brochure for Cliktronika 2005, the annual expo of the electronics hardware sector, scheduled to be held from August 5 to 7 at the Palace Grounds here for the second time.

The President of CLIK, Shobhana Prakash, said it would be a buyer-seller interface with more than 30 multinationals and overseas firms agreeing to participate along with organisations such as MAIT and other industry bodies.

Jurgen Henkel, Country Head of ZDH-Sequa, a German body that assists organisations in developing countries, spoke about its efforts to bring German businesses in touch with industries here.
