Focus on health of each mother, child

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, APRIL 6. The Rajasthan Government will observe World Health Day this Thursday with the new theme of "sustaining health of each mother and child" set out by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Director (Public Health) of the State Government's Medical and Health Department, O.P. Gupta, said here today that instructions had been issued to the Chief Medical and Health Officers in all districts as well as the Principals and Controllers of all medical colleges to publicise the new theme through various activities.

The cooperation of non-Government organisations, voluntary bodies working in the health sector and elected representatives has been sought for holding seminars and exhibitions, organising marathon races and arranging drawing and painting competitions for children.

Dr. Gupta said wide publicity would be given to the messages sent by WHO and other institutions highlighting the significance of ensuring good health of women and children and underlining the need to check the infant and maternal mortality rate.
