Raids on top official's office, residence

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, APRIL 6. The sleuths of the anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday raided the office and residence of the Registrar of Companies, B.M. Anand, here.

Highly placed sources in the CBI told The Hindu that the office and residence of Mr. Anand were raided as there is a case of alleged acquisition of assets disproportionate to known sources of income against him.

The sources said the CBI officials seized some "material that could prove the allegations against Mr. Anand" from his office in Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala and his residence in Jayanagar.

In another case, the CBI staff raided four places in Indiranagar, Kumara Park and Bull Temple Road in connection with cases registered against them by the economic offences wing of the Central investigating agency in Chennai.

Sources said the accused in these cases were running "parallel telephone exchanges" and routing international calls through them, causing huge losses to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

Man arrested

The CBI arrested one person from Bull Temple Road in this connection and he will be produced before the court on Thursday, sources said. Wednesday's operations were part of nationwide raids conducted by the CBI, sources said.
