Rain in Mangalore

MANGALOREMOODBIDRIMANGALOREMANGALOREMANG, APRIL 6.APRIL 6.APRI A spell of summer showers brought respite to the people of Mangalore from the relentless heat. The city, which recorded a maximum temperature of 39 C on Tuesday, had pleasant weather on Wednesday with a maximum temperature of 30 C. Many children were seen getting drenched in the rain and even office-goers appeared to enjoy the showers.

Award for H.S. Parvathi

MANGALOREMOODBIDRIMANGALOREMANGALOREMANG, APRIL 6.APRIL 6.APRI Shivarama Karanth Foundation, Moodbidri, has chosen H.S. Parvathi, writer, for this year's Shivarama Karanth Award, the general secretary of the foundation, Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, said in a press release. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs. 7,000 and a citation. Ms. Parvathi has been a writer for 50 years. She has published 48 books. She has written over 30 interview-based articles on women. Ms. Parvathi has served as secretary of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Karnataka Lekhakhiyara Sangha.

Church Council mourns Pope

In a press statement, the council secretary, H.M. Watson, has expressed condolences and the council' solidarity with the Church.

Seminar for engineers

Bank staff conference

C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary of the All India Bank Employees' Association, will deliver the inaugural address. Ananthakrishna, Chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd., will be the chief guest. The new office building of the association on C. Mathias Road, Bejai will be inaugurated.
