AIR special programmes on Tamil New Year day

TIRUCHI, APRIL 6 . The All India Radio, Tiruchi, will broadcast three special programmes on April 14 (Tamil New Year Day). Recording of the programmes is to take place from Thursday.

A vocal recital by T. N. Seshagopalan and T. N. S. Krishna will be held at the Community Centre, `B' Sector, Kailasapuram, BHEL Township, at 6-30 p.m. on April 7.

The programme, co-sponsored by the Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, will be on air at 8-45 a.m on the Tamil New Year Day.

A `patti mandram' on the topic `Sodhanaigalai sadhanaigalakka thevai - Sindhanai balamae, Nagachuvai balamae' will be conducted at 6-15 p.m. on April 9 at the National Higher Secondary School in Nagapattinam, to coincide with the institution's centenary celebrations. R. Shanmugavadivel will be the moderator. All AIR stations in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry will relay the programme at 10 a.m. on April 14.

Similarly, a special rural folk art programme will be conducted at 6-30 p.m. on April 10, in co-ordination with the Kasturba Gandhi Kanya Gurukulam, at Salt Satyagraha Memorial campus in Vedaranyam. The programme, which will feature Kolattam and other folk arts, will be broadcast at 11-30 a.m. in the primary channel of Tiruchi AIR.

Folk art

A special series on rural folk art `Mannin Manam' will be aired through the primary channel of the AIR at 8 p.m. every second Monday from April to November. A release issued here today said A. Gopinath would present `kaalathai vellum kalaigal' in the series, from April 11.
