BANGALORE, APRIL 6. A construction worker was electrocuted after he accidentally fell on an electricity line on Kacharakanahalli Main Road in the Banaswadi Police Station limits on Wednesday. The police said the victim, Jayaram (21), who was pouring concrete mixture on a side of the second floor of a building, slipped and fell on the electricity line running close to the building. The victim was from Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. He was living in Muniswamy Layout here, the police said. Quoting Jayaram's relative, Bhaskar, the police said he had held the house owner and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (BESCOM) responsible for the accident. Bhaskar has charged BESCOM with failure to take action against the building owner as he was constructing close to an electricity line, the police said.
BESCOM notice
However, the jurisdictional BESCOM officer, K. Shivanna (Assistant Executive Engineer of E-5 Subdivision), told The Hindu that notice was issued to the building owner 10 days ago to stop construction till the 440-volt capacity electricity line was shifted. "But he failed to abide by the notice and went ahead with construction work," he said. The incident, he said, had forced BESCOM to file a complaint against the building owner holding him responsible for Jayaram's death.
