BANGALORE, APRIL 6. Residents of Govindpuram near Nagawara in Byatarayanapura City Municipal Council (CMC) limits are a worried lot. Though they paid the prescribed fee of Rs. 2,500 to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for Cauvery water connections two years ago, they are yet to get water and drainage connections. In a statement, T. Mohammed Ismail, a resident of 6th Cross on A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in the area, has said that they were deprived of all civic amenities. "We have been paying property tax to the municipal council regularly for the last few years. Yet our area is being neglected," he said. Mr. Ismail pointed out that the residents depended on borewells for water. "Even this supply is irregular and is solely at the discretion of the local politicians. Often, we go without water for one week at a stretch," he said. "The authorities had promised to start work on the lines two years ago. But nothing has happened so far," he said. That is not all. Garbage clearance in the area is irregular and one can see heaps of garbage dumped on the roadsides. Besides, garbage from other areas is brought and dumped on the available vacant land in Govindpuram, Mr. Ismail said. Mr. Ismail has urged the authorities to ensure that the area is provided with all civic amenities at the earliest.
