Shimoga
By Our Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA, APRIL 7. The President of the Bharatiya Janata Party city unit, S.N. Channabasappa, said here on Thursday that the Shimoga City Municipal Council President, B.A. Ramesh Hegde, should tender an apology to the public for the erratic water supply in the city. He told presspersons that the acute water crisis in the city is a result of "lack of foresight to manage the water supply." It is unfortunate that the city faces a water crisis despite the fact that the Tunga flows close by, he added. Mr. Channabasappa claimed that there is no shortage of water in the Tunga. The water crisis is owing to the poor handling of the situation by the officials concerned, he said and put the blame on the engineering section of the municipality. He urged the authorities to seek the advice of former engineers who have experience in handling water distribution in the city. Mr. Channabasappa said the proposal to construct a check-dam across the Tunga at Krishnaraj Waterworks in Mandli is still pending. The city would not have faced the water crisis during summer if the project had been taken up. He asked the municipal authorities to take elected representatives into confidence to pressure the Government for the implementation of the proposal.
