dated April 8, 1955: Sri Prakasa televised

The Governor of Madras, Mr. Sri Prakasa, was televised at the Philips Silver Jubilee Exhibition which he declared open on April 6 at the premises of the firm on Mount Road in Madras before a select gathering which included Mr. C.Subramaniam, Finance Minister. Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi and Kumari Radha sang the prayer song from the adjacent studio and they were on view on the TV screen. Mr. Sri Prakasa, declaring the exhibition open, said Philips was a great name and had been always noted for high standard of production. He said he had never before seen a TV set and was happy to have seen it now. He was glad they were enabled to see Smt. Subbulakshmi on the TV. They were, however, sorry that they could see only her picture, not herself. (At this stage Smt. Subbulakshmi, who was present there but had obviously not been noticed by the Governor, stood up in her place and bowed to him).
