HUBLI, APRIL 7. College teachers from all over the State will hold a demonstration in Bangalore on Monday and Tuesday in protest against what they term the Government's lack of response to demands of the Federation of University College Teachers' Associations of Karnataka. Addressing a press conference here today, Lingaraj Angadi, president of the Karnataka University College Teachers' Association (KUCTA), said office-bearers of all college teachers' associations in the State will participate in the demonstration. He said the Government recently issued an order which goes against the interest of teachers deputed to the pre-university (PU) section during the bifurcation of PU from degree colleges. The Government promised at the time of the bifurcation in 2001 that service conditions of surplus teachers deputed to the PU section will be protected and they will be sent back to the degree colleges where they worked earlier. But now, an attempt is being made to bring them under the control of the PU Board, he said. Mr. Angadi said the federation has raised objections to the G.O., issued in January 2005, and appealed to the Government to withdraw the order immediately. But there is no response and the federation has decided to stage a demonstration in Bangalore, he added.
