Minister to take up Jurala canal issue

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL, APRIL 7. The Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, said he would take up the issue of water supply to Kurnool city from Jurala canal this season. The Minister visited the summer storage tank on the outskirts today. Only 10 mcft was available in the tank while the requirement of the city was around 1.5 mcft. Also, an equal amount of water was lost due to evaporation.

Mr. Mareppa said Jurala was the only viable alternative for getting water for the city. The Collector, Vikas Raj, had formally written to the Government seeking Jurala water through the RDS link channel. The canal would be let into the river just above the water pumping point.

Meanwhile, the Municipal authorities have started drawing water from Gajuladinne project to replenish the summer storage tank. Mr. Mareppa stressed the need for second phase of SS tank to meet the demand of the city. He said the project would be placed before the Government.
